Watch: The Strangers Movie
The horrifying events that took place in the Hoyt family’s vacation home at 1801 Clark Road on Februay 11, 2005, are still not entirely known.
AHHH!!!
According to the F.B.I. there are an estimated 1.4 million violent crimes in America each year. On the night of February 11, 2005 Kristen McKay and James Hoyt went to a friend’s wedding reception and returned to the Hoyt family’s summer home. The brutal events that took place there are still not entirely known…..
While staying at the isolated summer home, a young couple, Kristen McKay and James Hoyt, are terrorized and then later brutally stabbed by three masked individuals, presumably a family due to the structural appearance of the three individuals. Much of the film revolves around the strangers first cutting off their means of communication (such as destroying and stealing the phones in the house) and then lowering any other chances of escape (such as destroying James’ car and then setting Mike’s car on fire). After this is done, the strangers then continue to carry out their plan of murdering the couple, which is revealed when the younger doll-faced masked stranger says to Kristen, “You’re gonna die here”. The couple is soon overpowered by the sheer number and terrorizing antics of the strangers and then knocked unconscious and tied up. The shades are opened to show that morning has come, and the three strangers begin taking off their masks. Although their faces are never fully revealed to the audience, removing their masks shows that they will soon carry out their plans to kill the couple. The male stranger then picks up a butcher knife and begins stabbing James slowly and repeatedly, then hands the knife to another stranger who then stabs James until the third stranger takes the knife and begins stabbing Kristen. The three strangers are then seen driving away in a pick-up truck as one proclaims, “Next time, it will be easier.” Although it is presumed that they have been killed, the last scene shows the couple untied and James dead, while Kristen was also presumed dead until the Mormon boy tried touching her face and she begins screaming wildly.
It is not said if they survived their wounds or not, since in the beginning of the film it is the Mormon boy Jordan who is frantically screaming to the 911 operator.

where did this take place? what state?
June 1st, 2008 at 9:48 pm
I would like to know where this took place and what state? The same question Courtney has asked as I am sure many other’s are asking as well. Thanks so much and I really enjoyed the movie. The actor/actress did a very good job in this movie.

from what I have read it is somewhat based off of the director bryan bertinos childhood and somewhat based off the charles manson family murders which were in california

The girl survives, the boys voice in the beginning of the movie on the 911 calls, talks about “two” bodies. Those bodies being Hoyt and his male friend Mike who shows up.

June 6th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
omg me and my friends wanna go see it but were scared that something simialr is gunna hapen to us…..
June 7th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
This took place in South Carolina….. I wanna know that if this story is really based on what happened that night in February 2005 and not the Keddie murders in 1981 then why arent there any news articles or reports on the internet? And Why isnt there anything that says if the victim(s) survived or not? And at the end of the movie there should be “in loving memory”……. IDK i still feel that this was based more around the Keddie murders and not this other story. If you have any information on it being otherwise please post it!!!! Thanks

why does the girl randomly scream at the end?
June 8th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
why does she scream?
BECAUSE SHE WAS JUST STABBED!
June 8th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
well i just left the comment above me.
seriously, don’t ask dumb questions.
okay,
the movie is based on loosely about manson murders because of the two girls and the guy and randomly picking victims to kill.
then its also based on this murder event called cabin 28 in czech republic.
read up on it and you will see the similar plot lines.
also the writer and director confirmed it was based on cabin 28 murders.
June 12th, 2008 at 5:17 pm
Cabin 28 is in California not the Czech Republic. The movie “Them” was in Czech
June 13th, 2008 at 11:59 pm
This event is based on the director’s childhood people. he confirmed that when he was young that someone was knocking on the door and trying to scare his family. As an aspiring director, i’m not sure why you would market a film on “true events” in south carolina, when this never happened in south carolina? They do tout this as it actually happened to two young people with those names. however i do think if you are a horror fan, you will enjoy the movie! Bryan showed he does have some craft and the script does flow well. The film is not based on the manson murders either. Bryan has said it is completely a movie brought to the screen based only on the fears that he went through as a child in regards to the scare tactics that were used in the movie in certain sequences. Banging on the door late at night and the throwing of objects. nothing more. This is a fictional tale folks! When you market a film ” based on true events” it is a tactic to draw a larger audience. It makes us believe that someone really went through this terrible event and we are fascinated with this notion as consumers. However, this movie falls short on the true events plot!!

THAT MOVIE WAS SO KINDA STUPID TO ME. All of the events was not put in the movie, if you are going to make a movie base on a true thing, have everything. Put all the plots in the movie, but the movie was kinda you know out loud. It was a distant scare movie, but it was stupid.
June 16th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
I thought this was a terrifying moving. I went to see it last Saturday night. It was very scary.
June 18th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
The movie was alright, i just felt that it left too many unanswered questions, if you are going to say that the movie is based on true events then you have to be more specific and if it is based off of those people then obviously the girl had to have lived because there had to be some witness to the events that took place. Unless these are just random events taken from other crimes and then put togeteher using these fictional people. I don’t know though i just wish he wouldn’t have let us hanging so much.
June 29th, 2008 at 5:36 pm
anonymous said that the girl survived. i think that she died and that is why they dont know exactly what happened because there was no one alive to tell the story. they boys didnt see the dead friend yet in the movie.
June 30th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
They say the movie is based on true events, and I agree with KB when they say that that is just a ploy to draw a larger audience because we as human beings are very interested in other people’s tragedies (hence traffic build up on a highway after a bad crash. Everyone wants to slow down and see what happened.) But “based on true events” could mean anything…it NEVER means that anything and everything that happened in a movie actually happened (a common one is people believing in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie as something that really happened.) I’ve heard that this movie is based on murders at Cabin 28, that it’s based on some of the Mason Family murders, that it’s based on murders from February 2005 at the Hoyt family house, and that it’s based on experiences from the director’s own life. If you ask me, it’s probably based on all of these things, the writer(s) taking terrifying information from all of these things, and using it to base the plot off of. And if you search the Hoyt family murders from 2005, you’ll see a disclaimer letting you know that while the family gave some rights to use their names and such in the film, they took off all references of their son and his girlfriend and the details surrounding their murders from the internet. So you can’t search it because they’ve erased everything out of respect for their deaths.

Guess I don’t have to watch the movie now, I was just trying to get info on the real murders. Didn’t know you were going to give away the whole plot and the ending of the movie. A little spoiler warning would have been nice!!
August 24th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
OK you gotta be kidding me. I already watched the movie but youre telling the whole story there, it is retarded. It is a complete spoiler. You are a retard
August 28th, 2008 at 12:20 am
I only saw the movie last night and it was definately one of the scariest movies I’ve ever seen - if its based on true events or not, it was put together impressively with some original scenes garenteed to make you jump or at least sit on the edge of your seat. If I happen to find any material relating to these “real life” violent crimes i will be sure to post them on here. One other thing, much like the movie “Open Waters” which was based on true events, there can really only be speculations as to what really happened to these people.

There’s gonna be a second one…thats why the ending was kinda shitty.
September 13th, 2008 at 1:25 am
The family erased the records to avoid stupid comments and questions.. I think it’s horrible what happened,, but if Kristen survived,,lets all just hope she identified the suspects..

October 28th, 2008 at 1:46 am
i think the was the most horrifing movie i’ve seen in a long time it is a true story the girls name was changed and so was her boyfriends of fear that they might come back and kill her. she survived and this happened in a little town in kansas.they haved never found the three crazy fkrs thats why my aunt doesn’t want people to know her real name or know where she lives now all i can tell you is that she has lost it and is in a mental hospital and she didn’t get to see there faces so please dont laugh at her story. its nothing to laugh about so if you dont have nothing good to say dont say anything.
October 28th, 2008 at 2:15 am

What town in Kansas?
October 30th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
the real story post,… is it true?? are you saying that this happened in kansas?? I am very much interested in this story, cause it is very rare and if she survived it is a miracle as well. i have not seen the movie yet, because I have been too afraid to do so,..however, i have read every article there is on the story and even tried research. so, please is it true??
November 11th, 2008 at 11:29 pm
i understand why it says based on true events! i liked the movie very well….at one point one fourth of the way thru the movie i said to my husband….”I dont like this movie!” he asked why and i replied “it is scaring the crap out of me”
i am a lil sad about the end….the writer did a great job at trailing off on basically nothing…..only if he is making another one! IT LEFT ME HANGING AND I LIKE THAT WHEN IT CONTINUES LATER, LIKE A GOOD BOOK! I AM GOING TO BE a LIL DISAPPOINTED IF THERE ISNT ANOTHER WITH SOME KIND OF EXPLINATION! i got on here basically to find out if this really happened or not….so far i still dont know but i am pleased with the responses that others have left!

November 23rd, 2008 at 6:51 pm

November 23rd, 2008 at 9:37 pm
